Equal opportunities and fair treatment have long been at the forefront of our Union agenda.  We are fully committed to valuing diversity and we aim to promote equality of opportunity throughout our Union.

In recent years our membership base has changed to reflect the growing diversity of Irish society.  We now have members of different nationalities and ethnic backgrounds joining our Union.  In this regard, the Union issued guidelines for “Combating Racism and Promoting Cultural Awareness” to Branches in 2008.  As a follow-on from that work we would like to survey members, both Irish nationals and members from different ethnic backgrounds, with a view to gathering data on their experiences at work.

It is hoped that this survey will give us a better idea of any issues faced by members from different ethnic backgrounds and identify what actions the Union may need to take in order to address these issues.

We would ask that you complete this short survey, which will only take a few minutes of your time.  The answers will be treated with absolute confidentiality and will be collated as general findings for a final report. You do not have to disclose your name, but please be assured that no individual’s personal information will be shared and the final report will be in a format that does not identify individual replies.  Those who complete the survey may nominate a registered charity, which will be entered into a draw for a prize of €300.

This survey has been developed with the assistance of the Equality Authority and the Irish Congress of Trade Unions. The survey and the research are being funded through the “Integrated Workplaces” initiative promoted by the social partners.  ICTU is playing its part by providing supports to enable trade unions to develop integrated workplaces.  Lir Training is conducting the research on behalf of the CWU, which will involve analysing the survey and completing a final report.  The input of our members is very important to us and is much appreciated.
