As you are aware the Sabbatical Scheme in Eircom has been in place for a number of years and the Union believes that it is now opportune to conduct a review of its operation.

The review is on the basis that the some members may have availed of the scheme in the last few years and may wish to provide the Union with their experiences both positive and negative. Branches are also asked to provide the Union with details of take up in their area.

Furthermore the Union is also interested in hearing what members feel should be put in place to assist work life balance going forward and how the current arrangements could be enhanced.

I would ask that this written feedback be sent to Carol Scheffer in Union Head Office by Monday, October 13th.

Administration Arrangements for Parental Leave
At this juncture we would also like to remind members that special administrative arrangements are in place in relation to those wishing to take 14 weeks parental leave. Employees who take parental leave in a block of 14 weeks can have their pay spread for up to a 12-month period. This can be supported on receipt of an approved written request. Approved requests should be informed to HRSSC at least 6 weeks (minimum) before the employee is due to commence Parental Leave.
