As you may be aware from media reports four members of staff in the GPO have been suspended with full pay, for what as the company has stated, is to allow the completion of an investigation into alleged accounting irregularities in the GPO.
As a result of those reports much rumour and innuendo have been doing the rounds and the purpose of this circular is to set the record straight. The role of Union headquarters in relation to the investigation is to ensure that the proper processes are adhered to by the investigators and we will discuss the outcome of the investigation at the appropriate stage. We are in no position to pass comment on the matter until that investigation is complete. I also wish to make it absolutely clear that there was no involvement whatsoever by Union headquarters and that at no stage where any monies, cheques or resources from Union headquarters used in this instance. Union headquarters is extremely concerned about the actions of the Investigation Branch and their role within An Post. The manner in which they interact with our members will be discussed at our next National Executive Council meeting. |
