BRITISH TELECOM DISCRIMINATES AGAINST IRISH STAFF PDF Print E-mail
Tuesday, 29 April 2008
The Communications Workers’ Union (CWU) would like you to support our online campaign that is highlighting the fact that British Telecom is denying a large group of its own staff the right to union representation simply because they are Irish.

The CWU has been trying for some time to develop a relationship with British Telecom in order to represent our members collectively.  To date the company has refused to make any effort to engage with the Union in a meaningful way and despite the fact that British Telecom staff in Northern Ireland enjoy union representation their employees south of the border, are effectively being discriminated against.

The CWU cannot accept that it is fair or equitable that a multi-national like British Telecom can run its business on an all-island basis and treat a large group of its staff this way – by denying them a basic human right. It beggars belief that in this day and age a company can so brazenly treat an entire group of its own staff within a single business operation like second class citizens. This is not a situation that the Union can tolerate any longer and the CWU is now compelled to move our campaign for equal treatment for all British Telecom Ireland workers to another level.
