You will be aware of the ongoing Security Review at An Post arising from a number of issues of concern which have been discussed with the Union. The Company has advised us that in order to improve security and cost effectiveness the Cash management distribution system will be changed. This emanates from a decision by the Government to change the national security arrangements for distribution of cash because of the high level of attacks on CIT companies. They have also confirmed that the Gardai will give effect to a total withdrawal from escort services. Consequently the An Post Management has advised the Union that they are required under Health and Safety Legislation, to put in place a secure end to end solution for delivery of remittances incorporating the best practice for industry for cash carriers and financial institutions. Following a pilot scheme at Mallow held earlier in the year the Company has now confirmed it is in a position to take delivery of the new equipment for Post Offices which will become available in late September / early October. The Company has advised the Union that it is finalizing the details of the planned rollout with G4S and the Gardai and will advise the Union of the intended schedule rollout over the coming weeks. The National Executive Council has accepted a proposal by the Company to apply the Income Protection Scheme as set out in 16.3.1 of the Collection and Delivery Agreement to employees whose overtime earnings are directly impacted by the introduction of these changes. The Commencement Date for the income protection will be the date of the change is introduced at the office. |
