GENERAL UPDATE: LRC AND SHOP STEWARD ELECTIONS PDF Print E-mail
Tuesday, 12 June 2007

Further to recent members meetings I write to update you on a number of issues as per below:

Shop Steward Elections
The nomination forms that were issued with the last circular have been returned in significant numbers and I am happy to report that Mr Tony Flood and Mr Billy Tyrrell are duly elected Shop Stewards for members in BT.

It should be noted that in the context of our membership which continues to grow, further nominations from other parts of the business are most welcome.  If you have a question in relation to getting more involved with the Union in relation to matters in BT do not hesitate to contact the undersigned, or indeed the newly elected shop stewards.

Labour Relations Commission  (LRC)
I wish to confirm that the LRC has been in contact with the Union to confirm that BT has agreed to participate in the S I 76 process.

At present both sides have offered suitable dates to the LRC and we await confirmation of dates for the initial meetings.

Membership  Growth – Grand Canal Plaza
I am happy to report that the number of staff within BT who are opting to join the Communications Workers’ Union continues to grow, and grow in significant numbers.  The Union organised a general open meeting for staff working in Grand Canal Plaza a number of weeks ago which I am happy to say was very well attended.  A good deal of the discussion at this meeting was focussed on the introduction of Job Families and a number of associated issues affecting staff in GCP.

I now wish to advise all members that a further meeting will take place.   All members  and non members  are invited to attend as follows:

Where:      Grand Canal Plaza Hotel, The Ardmore Room

When:       Thursday, June 21st

Time:         From 6.00pm

Given the ongoing change agenda being pursued by BT and with the implementation of Job Families and other changes it is vitally important that as many staff from the organisation attend this meeting.

I would ask  that you encourage as many of your colleagues to attend regardless of whether they are members of the Union or not in order that they might better understand what options they have available to them as well as the advice, guidance and service that the Union can provide throughout this difficult time.

I look forward to seeing you there.
