International Women’s Day (IWD) is celebrated this year on March 8th.  According to the IWD website, IWD “is the global day connecting all women around the world and inspiring them to achieve their full potential. IWD celebrates the collective power of women past, present and future”.

To mark IWD and the European Year of Equal Opportunities for all, the ICTU in conjunction with SIPTU has launched a pack of twelve postcards depicting some of the women “pioneers” of the labour and trade union movement.

The postcards were formally launched at Congress by General Secretary David Begg on March 6th. The launch was attended by Carol Scheffer and Claire Kelly on behalf of the CWU. It is intended that these postcards will serve as the first in a series which honours the contribution made by working women, North & South.

More packs are available from the ICTU. Please contact David Joyce on 01 889 77777.
