Now an annual event, March 1st marks Work Life Balance Day. The day is organised to increase awareness of Work Life Balance (WLB) by encouraging organisations and employees to be proactive in this area. WLB means establishing a range of flexible working arrangements that assist in supporting employees with their working lives and personal commitments. These commitments needless to say are not just limited to the care of children but can also encompass further study, travel etc. WLB has many advantages for both the employer and employee alike. For the employer it assists in staff recruitment and retention as well as increasing employee morale. For the employee WLB provides for flexibility in the workplace which assists in the effective combination of work and personal responsibilities as well as availing of other opportunities that have an importance to the employee. The CWU has a long history of negotiating on WLB. It is an integral part of the union’s equality agenda and as part of workplace equality these schemes encourage the participation of large diversity of workers. To mark the day we have distributed the WLB National Framework Committee’s leaflet and poster to every branch in the country. We are also setting up a dedicated e-mail address which will be launched on the day to answer queries on behalf of our members. If you would like further information please e-mail us your query and branch details to: This email address is being protected from spam bots, you need Javascript enabled to view it |
