Donal Connell, CEO An Post

Mr Connell actually began his career in the old department of Post & Telegraphs on the engineering side.  His father before him was a lifer in the old department and it would be nice to have a chief executive who has a grá for the business and the people working there.

Following his appointment, I contacted Mr Connell directly and last week we had a “break the ice” meeting which I am happy to report was very cordial.  I am extremely hopeful that we will be able to work together in the future to the betterment of the workers and customers of An Post. It must be absolutely obvious to all concerned that in an organisation like An Post which is so labour intensive that progress can only be made and will only be made through dialogue between the staff, its representatives and the management. I hope the fact that I have spent more time with the incoming CEO before he has taken up the position than I did with the outgoing CEO in almost two years is a positive sign.
